Tongits is more than just a card game — it is a tradition. At JLCC, we brought the whole experience online so you can play anytime, anywhere, with real stakes and fast payouts. Tara, maglaro na tayo!
If you grew up in the Philippines, there is a good chance Tongits was a regular fixture at family gatherings, fiestas, and lazy Sunday afternoons. You know the feeling — the sound of cards being shuffled, the quiet tension before someone calls a draw, and of course, the friendly arguments that come after every hand.
JLCC took all of that and brought it to your screen. The rules are exactly the same as the Tongits you know. Three to four players at a table, a standard 52-card deck, the same combinations — sets, sequences, and the coveted Tongits hand. What is different is that you can now play with real money, against real players, from the comfort of your phone or laptop.
The platform at JLCC is built to feel natural for Filipino players. The interface is clean and easy to navigate, even if you are not particularly tech-savvy. And because most Pinoys use GCash or Maya daily, depositing and withdrawing your winnings takes barely a minute.
Even if you have been playing Tongits since childhood, here is a clean rundown of how the game works on JLCC so there are no surprises at the table.
Three to four players join a table. The dealer distributes 12 cards to each player and one card is placed face-up in the center as the discard pile. The remaining deck sits face-down as the draw pile.
On each turn, draw either from the deck or pick up the top card from the discard pile. Then you must discard one card. You can also lay down sets (three or four of a kind) or sequences (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit) to reduce your hand value.
Any player who has laid down at least one set or sequence can challenge the table by calling a "fight." All players reveal their cards and the one with the lowest remaining card value wins. Timing this well is one of the key skills in competitive Tongits.
If you manage to discard or lay down every single card in your hand, you call Tongits and win the round outright — regardless of what other players are holding. This is the highest possible win condition in the game.
If the draw pile runs out before anyone wins, the game goes to a draw. The player with the lowest total card value at that point wins the pot. Stockpiling can be a valid strategy to force this situation if your hand is already lean.
Knowing card values helps you manage your hand strategically, especially when you are heading toward a draw or thinking about calling a fight at JLCC.
| Card | Point Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ace (A) | 1 point | Lowest value card — great to keep in hand |
| 2 – 9 | Face value (2–9 pts) | Mid-range; useful in sequences |
| 10 | 10 points | Worth discarding early if not in a set |
| Jack (J) | 10 points | High value — discard or build sets fast |
| Queen (Q) | 10 points | High value — same as Jack |
| King (K) | 10 points | Highest face card — manage carefully |
* Point values follow standard Philippine Tongits rules as applied on JLCC tables.
Building valid combinations is the core of Tongits strategy. Here are the three types you can lay down to reduce your hand value on JLCC tables.
Three or four cards of the same rank, regardless of suit. For example, three Kings or four 7s. Sets are the most common way to clear high-value cards from your hand early in the game.
Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. For example, 5-6-7 of Spades or 9-10-Jack of Hearts. Runs can be extended by other players who add matching cards to an existing sequence on the table.
You play all your cards through sets, runs, and a final discard — with zero cards left. This is an instant win and the most satisfying result in the game. It overrides all other outcomes at the JLCC table.
Tongits is a game of skill as much as luck. These habits separate the consistent winners from the ones who rely purely on good draws.
Every card discarded is a clue about what opponents are building. If three Queens have already been discarded, there is no point holding yours for a set. Adjusting your strategy based on what you observe is essential on JLCC tables.
Face cards (J, Q, K) and 10s carry 10 points each. If they are not contributing to a potential set or run within the first few turns, discard them. Holding onto high cards hoping for a set that never arrives is one of the most common mistakes new JLCC players make.
If your hand total is still high and you have not put down any melds yet, be cautious. A player who has melded can call a fight at any time. Keep track of your running total and try to put down at least one combination before the mid-game.
If your hand is clean but you have not hit Tongits yet, slowing your draw rate can drain the deck and force a draw win. This is a legitimate tactical move when you are confident your hand value is the lowest at the JLCC table.
In JLCC's online Tongits, you can still read patterns. How quickly is a player acting on their turn? Are they consistently taking from the discard pile? These behavioural cues tell you about their hand and how close they might be to Tongits.
Pick a table on JLCC that matches your budget. Starting at lower-stake tables while you build confidence is smart — there is no shame in that. Once your win rate improves at one level, moving up becomes a natural next step.
